The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Water Quality has an opening for one Engineering Geologist in the Groundwater Monitoring Section – Underground Injection Control Monitoring Unit. The position is located at 1001 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814, which is two blocks from light rail and public transportation and a short distance from the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmers’ markets, and the Golden 1 Arena. Duties:

Under the close supervision of a Senior Engineering Geologist and consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State and Regional Board’s Strategic Plan, the incumbent is expected to be courteous and provide timely responses to internal/external customers, follow through on commitments, and to solicit and consider internal/external customer input when completing work assignments.

  • Ability to promote a positive working environment and relationship with staff and management, governmental and non-governmental representatives, and the public.
  • Strong skills in oral and written communication, technical writing, critical thinking, and organization.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of geology and hydrogeology, groundwater monitoring program development, fate and transport of contaminants in groundwater, and statistical analysis of environmental data.
  • Familiarity with groundwater issues in California.
  • Excellent computer and data management skills; Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience presenting information to a variety of audiences.
  • Familiarity with the Water Board’s GeoTracker and GAMA information systems.
